luminaire prototypes come to life

As part of a two-week exercise in my Electric Lighting course (iarc 492/592) at the University of Oregon, students have worked in teams to create a working design prototype of a custom luminaire for a food retail space in Eugene. These luminaires will be complimented by off-the-shelf fixtures to create an integrated lighting design that highlights produce, improves visual function, clarity, and offers a comfortable shopping experience. ‘The Cloud’, featured here, uses an LED lamp surrounded by coffee filters to create a customizable and compostable diffusing sheath. Student work by undergraduate students, Kelly DeLor, Chang Chu, and Sasha Jimenez.
